ERC Dressage Series 2014-15

Lyneham Heath Equestrian
30th November

The sun shone on us for the first of our winter dressage shows last Sunday and the facilities at Lyneham were fantastic as always. The Sandbergs, along with their team including Nathan Izod and Caroline Princz worked hard to get the arenas ready for us so that we could have a full and busy day of entries. Some great riding produced lovely tests and there were lots of rosettes to give out to both juniors and seniors, members and non-members.

Area 18 Winter Dressage Qualifier

Hartpury College
1st November

Really good day at the Area 18 Winter senior dressage. Evenlode Gold Team with Lou Hinkley 3rd, Sue Stoddart 2nd, Pippa Heaney 3rd and Lucy Graham 3rd finished on a team score of 8 to win and qualify for the National Championships at Hartpury next year.
There were 22 teams competing and the Green team with Amy Vowles 5th, Issy Mangan 10th, Lenore Izod 9th and Sue Greenaway 12th came a very credible 10th. Well done guys.

Also a really good day for the Evenlode Juniors, the gold team won, each team member won in their arena. Bizzy Loffet N24, Holly Osborne N24, Issy Lovat P18 and Tia Bolter P18. The Green team were hot on their heals for 2nd place with Maddy Sole 2nd Honor Barker 2nd, Holly Osborne 3rd and Bizzy Loffet 2nd….very clever girls. Not a bad day for the Juniors and Seniors qualifying for the championships.

Area 18 Dressage to Music Qualifier

Kings Equestrian, Bromyard
7th June

Report from our Chairman, Cathy Ruane

I had wanted to have a go at dressage to music for many years having been to BD National Championships at Stoneleigh and Hartpury and also the final of the dressage at Greenwich for the London Olympics (not that I’ll ever be that good!!). This year I made up my mind to have a go at the Area 18 Dressage to Music Qualifier and so began the learning curve.

The cost of entry puts most members off and it is sad to me that it has to be so expensive, this year it worked out at £35 I think. I booked extra lessons with Nickie Maddaford to come up with a floor plan as I know Nickie does very well at this herself. The floor plan sorted, music was next. I had thought this was something I could do for myself, but time was moving on and after a couple of sleepless nights I went to the computer to look for help. I came across Tim of “Sapphire Sounds”, and the first thing he asked for was a video of the test and then an idea of the sort of music that I would like. He said it’s best with no vocals.

I had to go to my son’s yard to get the video as it had to be done in a 20 x 60m school, so with the help of husband Brian and son Dominic this was achieved relatively easily. This video then took an amazingly long time to load onto YouTube but eventually I got an email from Tim to say that he had got the video and was about to work on the music.

For a cost of £60, Tim put together the music to exact timings from the video, he sent me two copies of the CD plus all the official paperwork needed to send in to British Dressage to register your own music. Without Tim’s help I would never have managed this. He even included an addressed envelope with which to send it to the correct person at BD. CD in hand I now went off to more lessons with Nickie Maddaford and Rob Lumb to try and get the best out of myself and Angel (my horse).

The area competition was held at Kings Equestrian near Bromyard, so a good drive from the Cotswolds. My daughter Demelza came with me to help and video. The test went fairly well to plan, it was rather emotional for me but Angel was very good with just a little spook. The scores seamed to take quite a while to go up but I was so so pleased to get 73.05% and 4th place. Having read the rule book I think I have qualified for the Championship in October, so I have a while to get a few things a little better.

During this I have learnt that there is more to it than most of us would think, so I am organising a training session or two. This will be open to all members of Evenlode Riding Club, and will be at Icomb Pastures (Chris Hall’s yard) and the trainer will be Richard Baldwin who often judges at the BRC Championships.

More details to follow shortly but please register with me if you are interested so that I have an idea of numbers to work with. Send me an email – [email protected]

Area 18 Senior Showjumping Qualifier

Malvern Showground
25th May

Evenlode had another successful day at the area qualifier held at Malvern. The open team of Louise Hinckley, Heather Moodie and Judy Tice came second, losing out on first place by only two points! They all jumped brilliantly over a really testing track, especially Louise who came third individually after jumping clear all day.

The intermediate team of Pippa Heaney, Heather Moodie, Mandi Woolliams and Stuart Nie also came second, qualifying for the championships at Lincoln. Heather put up a polished performance to come second individually.

The novice team of Holly Trigg, Sue Greenaway, Caroline Robson and Stuart Nie narrowly missed out on a rosette in a huge class. However Holly jumped three clear rounds for fourth place individually.

A huge well done to all who took part.

Area 18 Combined Training Qualifier

Dodderhill Court, Droitwich
26th April 2014

ERC sent three members to the Combined Training Qualifier at Dodderhill Court – Sue Greenaway, Pippa Heaney and Caroline Robson.

Sue had two rides, the first on her young horse Velvet who did a nice test and a lovely clear round of show jumping. Her second, Hope, was drafted in at the last minute after having not seen a coloured pole for months! They performed well in both phases, especially the show jumping where their new pursuit of team chasing seems to have given Hope bags of confidence!

Pippa and Duffy did a beautiful test, only slightly marred by a fellow competitor obliterating not one, but two show jumps in the show jumping arena which was very close to the dressage arenas! They then went on to show jump clear for 10th place.

Caroline and Mouse did a pleasing test (squealing and exuberance kept in check!), then rolled a pole in the show jumping for four faults.

No ribbons this time, but a fun day out and a good start to the season!

National Indoor Winter Dressage Championship

Hartpury College, Gloucester
30th March

The team of Bizzy Loffet, Holly Osborne, Tia Bolter and Honor Barker went to this championships, having qualified back in November.

They all had an enjoyable day and all four ponies and horses looked a picture. It was our juniors first time at this championship and although it was called the Indoor Championship the dressage took place in the large outdoor arena.

Everyone was very pleased with their tests and Holly was placed 3rd on her lovely grey Derha Boy.
